On the 30th of April 2015, I attended my School Annual Day of the Academic Year 2014-15 in the evening. I was to get a gold medal for being the topper of my class and a special achievement trophy for art. The programme was held in The Kamaraj Arangam at Teynampet, Chennai.
The guest of honour was Dr.V. Anantha Subramanian, the Professor and the Head of the Department of Ocean Engineering in The Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. I and my parents reached the hall at 4 in the evening. The programme was to start by 5:30 pm. The function started by the school choir singing the school song and a prayer song. After the school choir, the Guest of Honour, Dr. Schram, Mrs.J.Jaibala, our School Principal, Mrs. Navneetam and Mrs. Jaishree, our Vice Principals lighted the Kuthu Vilakku. After that, the school orchestra presented a few instrumental songs. One of them was the famous song called ‘My heart will go on..’ from ‘The Titanic.’ Dr. Elizabeth Schram, the founder chairman of our school, presented the Welcome Address and after that the school Principal presented the Annual Report of the school.
The Awards ceremony began after the Annual Report. I received my Gold medal and my art trophy. Mrs. J.Jaibala, our Principal gave me the Gold medal. There were four proficiency medallists in our class. I and V.Yashwant shared the Gold medal and Kenn Aaron Pradeep and Kashyap.N shared the silver medal.
The Special Achievement Award (which I had been telling ‘art trophy’ all this time) was given to me by Mrs.Navneetam. For The Special Achievement Award there were four winners for Drawing, Swimming and Roller Skating.
After the Awards Ceremony, the Guest of Honour presented the Presidential Address. School Pupil Leader, Debottam Chattopadhyay of Std. XI proposed the Vote of Thanks and the Cultural Programme started with the Invocation dance by the students class VI to class IX from the Maduravoyal campus. This performance was the most beautiful performance of the whole programme. The main topic of this dance was the elements of the Earth, Water and Fire. Few students performed as fire and few as water. I loved this dance very much. It was choreographed by Bindu Mam, my Social Science teacher.
The next performance was a beautiful dance by the students of class III and IV from the Ayanambakkam campus. The stage was in complete darkness when they danced with lights. The next item was a musical melange by the school choir. The choir sang and danced beautifully. The next on stage was a wonderful, marvellous performance by the students of classes III to VIII from the Irrungattukottai campus. This one was awesome. We all were awestruck when we saw the students perform in complete darkness with their gloves making group creations. They made mountains, people walking on the mountains, faces crying and laughing… it was wonderful to see all that.
Then when the next performance was about to start, we left the auditorium because it was already late in the night and reached home. Altogether, I enjoyed my school annual day and happy now that the vacation started. Have to go to school only on June 15th.
