✨2. AHOBILA NARASIMHA ✨
‘Nava Narasimhas of Ahobilam’ Painting Series🙏🏻
I have referenced the original idol of Ahobila Narasimhar for this painting.

The deity Ahobila Narasimha or Ugra Narasimha is in the main temple of Ahobilam and is the earliest of all the nine shrines. The idol is only 2 inches high and is very small in size. The Lord is found in a very fierce form here and also has Lakshmi Devi on His right chest in the form of Srivatsa (I have drawn the full figure of Lakshmi in my painting, not the Srivatsa form). He has four arms, two arms holding the Asura Hiranyakashipu and the other two hold the Conch and Discus (Shanku-Chakra). Prahlada is also found near the feet of the Lord. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
.
In the photo of the original idol, there are only two arm. So this is kind of my interpretation of Ahobila Narasimhar!🙏🏻
.
A huge thank you to Mridula Sivakumar akka for helping me with the research for this series!❤️

This is a painting series based on the ‘Nava Narasimha’ dance drama performed by the students of Sridevi Nrithyalaya, choreographed by our Guru, Dr. Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan, which debuted on July 2nd 2022. In this series, I’ll be painting 9 forms of Narasimha Swamy found at Ahobilam, the centre of worship for the 4th Avatar of Lord Vishnu.
