✨GĀYATRI✨
Navaratri 2022 Painting Series-5
Gāyatri Devi🙏🏻

“Om Bhur Bhuvah Swah
Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi
Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayaat”

Gāyatri Devi is the personified form of the Gāyatri Mantra, the most sacred hymn from Vedic texts. Gāyatri Devi is the deity of knowledge, education and virtue. She is also known as Sāvitri or Vedamāta (mother of the Vedas).

The well known form of Goddess Gayatri is ‘Panchamukhi’ : the one having five heads: Dhavala (White), Hema (Golden), Mukta (Pearl), Vidruma (Coral red) and Neela (Blue) with the ten eyes looking in eight directions plus the earth and sky, and ten arms holding various types of weapons attributed to Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma.
The sacred Gāyatri Mantra helps a person in cleansing the mind and body. The Mantra helps people attain Moksha by liberating them from their Karma. In this series, Gāyatri Devi represents wisdom as the way to attain liberation.

This is my first time painting a Goddess with multiple heads (each of a different colour as well! :-D). Painting Gāyatri Devi was by far the most interesting and exciting for me in this year’s Navaratri series.
