3. What is Artificial Kidney / Hemodialysis?
Ans:
- Kidneys are vital organs for survival.
- Infections, injury and restricted blood low may cause the poisonous wastes to get accumulated in the kidney.
- This can lead to death.
- In case of kidney failure, an artificial kidney can be used.
- An artificial kidney is a device to remove nitrogenous products of blood through dialysis.
- Artificial kidneys contain different tubes with semi permeable lining, suspended in a tank of dialysing fluid.
- This dialysing fluid consists of the same osmotic pressure as that of blood, but is devoid of nitrogenous wastes.
- The patients blood is passed through these tubes.
- During this passage, waste products of blood pass into dialysing fluid by diffusion.
- The purified blood is sent back to the patient’s body.
4. How do plants get rid of their wastes?
Ans:
- Oxygen itself is a waste in plants
- Plants get rid of excess water by transpiration
- Plants wastes are stored in cellular vacuoles in some leaves, they may fall off later.
- Other waste products are in resins and gums
- They may be shedded to soil too.
5. Draw a diagram of the Nephron.
